Katherine Masters grew up in Romania and attended Durmstrang Institute, which has a far darker reputation than one might expect from talking to her. She's a very cheerful woman, but also very practical, and her greatest love growing up was Care of Magical Creatures.
When she graduated, she got a job as a dragon-handler with the local reserve, and met fellow handler, Charlie Weasley, who was three years older.
In 1993, she was one of a group of dragon-handlers who attended a series of seminars in England, and picked up baby Norbert from the Astronomy Tower at the request of Charlie's younger brother, Ron.
She and Charlie began dating shortly after that, but their relationship is being kept very quiet so that Molly Weasley doesn't find out - not only does Charlie have no wish to be hurried into marriage, neither of them know how she will take Katherine's 'Dark' education.
